this week's post marks the eighth in a series of cassettes gifted to us by educator cliff sloane. a former professor of ethnomusicology and founder of asianclassicalmp3.org, a major influence behind this blog.

our eighth tape from cliff features the music of udom sin's chiang mai ensemble. according to cliff, udom's group were some of the most sought-after performers for funeral music in the city, around 1990. on this recording, his ensemble is based around the salo (a three-stringed spike fiddle), the sueng (a plucked fretted lute) and what i believe to be the khlui lip mueang (a bamboo flute), with drums and cymbals supporting. enjoy, and find more from this group at cliff's site!
